Space and Power in Early Modern Europe: Workshop
Wednesday 11 June
St Edmund Hall, 10am - 3pm
Ever since the spatial turn, historians have worked with increasing interest to unpick the ways in which power and place have been mutually shaped. The question of space and power has fostered an interdisciplinary community of historians, often using novel and inventive approaches to reconstruct the histories of the Early Modern age. This workshop will offer a unique opportunity to discuss this topic with eminent scholars in the field, featuring presentations by the historians Elizabeth Cohen, Thomas Cohen, and Emily Michelson, as well as current graduate students. There will be plenty of opportunities for informal conversation as well as a roundtable discussion to end the day, facilitating knowledge exchange between those working on spatial history, microhistory, gender history, communication, and environmental history.
